Last Week In Bayern News

subrat Separator September 21, 2020

Breathe in, breathe out and go thru Last week in Bayern News is what we would do.

Sunday

By the time we are writing this, Thiago has finally decided where to set his focus on next. Uli had made it clear that the Premier League clubs linked with him must make a move before the Bundesliga restarts or they run the risk of waiting forever. This is a major reason why I grew up loving Bayern Munich. Even after winning everything last season, they know their priorities and hold good business relationships with other European giants.

Oh also, seems like the management is against buying any more wingers. The only signings we might be about to witness are perhaps for a full-back (preferably someone young) and the fourth winger position might be up for grabs for the chaps at FC Bayern II, if Muller doesn’t go back to the right wing.

Well at least, Lucas is flexing his cheek muscles again.

Monday

Uli had another meltdown. And then things turned out erm….unusual, to say the least.

Focussing on more important things, FC Bayern has a few jersey updates. The choice of number for Zirkzee looks intriguing, with KHR, Xabi Alonso, Claudio Pizarro, and Hansi Flick having donned the No. 14 jersey before.

Reintroduction of fans to football arenas has been a massive subject of interest for the past few weeks. With multiple Bundesliga clubs having to track back on their previous promises regarding their home match attendance, all eyes are set on UEFA and their alleged experiment with the Supercup as a flag-bearer.

As mentioned by the club already, Bayern Munich will offer free coronavirus PCR tests through Ecolog on September 21 and 22. This is true for the fans that will be travelling to Budapest for the Supercup between Sevilla and Bayern Munich. These tests by Ecolog will be conducted for the fans at the Allianz Arena for Bayern cardholders.

News and speculations regarding the fixture are already out, with a lax set of guidelines in the mix as well. One would hope an international committee would be more dedicated to the cause but apparently that’s all they can manage right now. Well if this experiment does not go according to plan, it would be not for a lack of trying.

Here, some training photos for a change.

Tuesday

UEFA has announced the list of officials for the supercup ahead of the game between Sevilla and FC Bayern, which English referee Anthony Taylor is set to officiate. The general consensus is that he has been rather unfair to Chelsea in the past, which wets the appetite for how he is going to officiate the match of a club that has demolished them not too long ago.

In other news, FC Bayern recruited a backup for Lewandowski. Just kidding, unless…. we are not?

Kingsley Coman has been in contact with a person infected with the coronavirus and is now undertaking a period of self-isolation at home, in accordance with the COVID-19 guidelines outlined by the Robert Koch Institute. His coronavirus test already produced a negative result, so no worries hopefully

You know the Bundesliga season is going to be a helluva ride, if Lewandowski of all people says so.

Wednesday

Why do I get this strange feeling that we’ve been reading more about guidelines and spectator counts allowed for each club rather than what’s cooking over at

Säbener Straße….except that we haven’t talked about the spectator count part yet?

The guidelines are for how many fans any Bundesliga club is allowed to admit to their home games, as published by the Robert Koch Institute. There has been a delay by the state for the green light, so the tickets haven’t started being sold yet. The wait is for confirming the number of incidents is within reasonable parameters, we presume.

Robert Lewandowski was named the Bayern Player of the Season for 2019/20, if that’s any news to the human eye.

As for the latter question, here’s another training vid. Matchday incoming.

Thursday

We knew this was coming. To make this brief, Thiago has decided to see out the remainder of his career at Anfield. From Die Roten to the Reds, we wish this wasn’t happening. Danke, maestro.

I wish I was as succinct in penning down my emotions as Hansi Flick. But then again, that must be why I am not managing the largest club in the world. Because trust Flick to get everything right post Thiago, amirite?

Since Thiago will not be with the team anymore ahead of the fixture versus Schalke: this implies that the pivot of Kimmich and Goretzka is now set in stone as the preferred midfield setup.

Tidbit for Thursday: Bayern Munich start the new campaign with 13 straight league victories from last season, a feat that has not been repeated since the Guardiola era.

Before we take a brief look at what transpired tonight, make sure you go through a preview of the fixture if you’ve been living under a rock or are just new to the Bundesliga.

Friday Faccs: Felix Zwayer will officiate tonight’s Bundesliga opening fixture between Bayern and Schalke. The Berlin ref has had a history of not penalising fouls where they are due against Bayern Munich.

Oh also, we have a new number 6.

Ahead of the game, Robert Lewandowski and Hans-Dieter Flick were awarded the player of the year and manager of the year awards respectively.

We would h8 to close this day with a brief discussion of what might be one of the most significant matches to remember FC Bayern by all year. Before we proceed to the weekend, go thru this comprehensive piece by Marc.

Saturday

Our bets are on Schalke taking the whole of 2020 to recover that -8 GD, they were that poor on the ball. Don’t take our word for it, Muller said the same thing too.

On the other end of the field, Lucas Hernandez showed us his love for duels and to be honest, some of us were pleasantly surprised with his pace. The wingers had a good showing, Müller & Co broke all kinds of records (again) and Musiala put his name on the scoresheet: Everyone’s super happy with their performances. Then there’s this guy:

Flick seems to have made up his mind to pick up the first silverware of the season, come next Thursday: the result of this match was just a byproduct of that mentality, IMO.

Keep calm and believe in Flick.
