Last Week In Bayern News
After the match, the Bavarians were finally allowed to lift their salad bowl and have a little bit of fun. While this was not the usual bier douche and celebration with the home crowd, it was nevertheless good to see something as normal as Bayern win a trophy and the genuine joy on the faces of they players, especially those who were experiencing it for the first time. As always however, there was plenty of news off the pitch as well and we’ve cultivated some of it here for you.
Sunday
Kicker released their player ratings for the Freiburg match. Naturally Lewandowski was the highest rated player, but for some unknown reason, they seemed to have expected more than 2 goals and an assist from the Pole and only gave him a 1.5.
Kicker also revealed an interesting bit of trivia noting that Hansi Flick is just the 5th man to win the Bundesliga title as a player and manager for the same club.
Monday
While unsurprising, Deutsche Welle Sports reported that Bundesliga teams will face a reduction to the contracted agreement amount of their domestic television revenue for the next 3 seasons.
Meanwhile according to Kicker, Bayern will sign Hoffenheim’s 17 year old winger Mamin Sanyang to their youth squad this summer.
Several injured players also used the general off day to make progress on their returns to the field. Thiago, Jann-Fiete Arp and Corentin Tolisso all were on the pitch and were joined by Arjen Robben who was training for a return to football.
Tuesday
Starting off Tuesday similarly to Monday, Karl Heinz-Rummenige stated that while he doesn’t think that teams will likely bid in the hundreds of millions for players this summer, he does see Bayern bringing in several players and expanding the squad given an anticipated high work load next season.
Back the right back speculation, Shakhtar’s Dodo revealed that he was happy with the interest from Bayern and PSG but that he wouldn’t make a decision till the season was finished.
Several clubs, mostly in France, are very interested in a loan move for Mikael Cuisance for next year. according to Foot Mercato.
Tons of Lucas Hernandez hypothesizing going on. First he’s leaving. Then Falk shuts it down. Later Deschamps’ tells him to stay. Finally, Bayern supposedly are not considering selling the Frenchman. Honestly, it seems like no one knows what the hell is going on.
Niklas Sule’s training seems to still be headed in the right direction as he trained with Hermann Gerland.
Wednesday
James apparently decided to give a little backstory on why he left to Caracol TV. In the interview he said he appreciated everything Bayern did for him and especially his time under Jupp Haynckes but that he wasn’t “comfortable and happy” at the club and therefore asked them not to activate the option to buy.
For all of you who still remember that there is another team in Munich, that is not red, the youth team added a little salt to their wounds by beating the hometown rivals 2-1 in the 3rd division.
According to Falk and Bild, Bayern do not want to pay more than 40 million Euro for Leroy Sane. Surprisingly, Man City do not see this as a fair price. Who could have predicted that…
Rummenigge reminded everyone of how pointless the Nations League matches this September are, falling just 10 days after the Champions League Final.
In a classy move by the front office, Bayern will not require any transfer fee for Sven Ulreich to prevent any potential obstacles from him joining any club that would offer regular playing time.
According to Kicker, the same team who are only willing to pay 40 million for one of the best 24 year old wingers in world football are also apparently ready to slap price tags on David Alaba and Thiago of 60-80 million. You can’t make this stuff up…or maybe you can…lets hope that you can.
Thursday
This day was all about Thiago. According to Sport 1, Thiago informed the Bayern bosses that he wishes to leave the club in the summer. Hansi Flick is trying to get him to stay. Liverpool are apparently one of the teams that are interested in the Spaniard if he were to leave. Finally, OptaFranz let us all know that Thiago does not lose…at least he loses less than anyone else in Bundesliga history.
Friday
A bit of good news to start the day on Friday, as it was reported that Sule might even be available on the bench for the DFB Pokal final against Leverkusen next week!
Meanwhile, Thomas Tuchel is a bit butt hurt by Kouassi joining Bayern. “At 17, and without a pro contract, he played in maybe our most important game against BVB.” He went on to say that he didn’t understand and was saddened by it. I wonder why coming into a match in the 92nd minute didn’t have a bigger impact on his desire to stay.
More good news! Robert Lewandowski was deservedly voted the Bundesliga Player of the Season.
Continuing with the award show, Alphonso Davies was also announced as the Bundesliga Rookie of the Season.
Saturday
Falk kicked off the final match day by debunking a rumor that Sane would not wait till 2021 to sign for Bayern. Later he reported that if Bayern receive a transfer fee for Thiago, that money will be used for Sane.
In the match, Jerome Boateng made his 200th Bundesliga appearance for FC Bayern. Thomas Muller got his record 21st assist early in the match. Michael Cuisance got his first Bundesliga goal which was also a contender for goal of the week. Lewandowski picked up his 34th goal of the season and Muller’s goal to finish the scoring put Bayern at 100 goals scored, 1 away from the all time record.
During the game, it was announced that Arjen Robben would return to his original club FC Groningen next season.
After the match followed the celebrations and trophy collection. Lewandowski picked up his third straight Torjägerkanone, a record of course, and fifth of his career. According to OptaFranz, Bayern’s 49 (our of 51 possible) points in the second half the season was also a record. Bayern also set up a nice tribute to the fans at the Allianz Arena and Muller made sure to let Berni know that he also is a champion!
