Last Week in Bayern News
Sunday
Following Bayern’s win on Saturday over Eintracht, Jerome Boateng’s contract situation was discussed once again. For probably the 500th time since the start of the season he issued the following statement: “There have been no talks so far. I’m not putting any pressure. I have a valid contract until the end of June 2021. The most important thing for me right now is what the coach says. The rest will come in time.”
In what I’m sure was a surprise to all Munich supporters, the club was linked to a right back…again…this time in the form of Shakhtar’s Dodô. Even more shocking, the Bayern offer for the Brazilian was 10 million below the asking price.
Monday
In actual squad news, Thiago trained individually however was unable to make it back for the BVB match and Serge Gnabry trained for 30 minutes before heading to the locker room “early”. Evidently there was no particular reason for this since the German international started Tuesday’s matchup. We also finally saw a video of Niklas Sule resuming on field training.
Tuesday
To kick off the big matchday, Bild reported that Alaba wanted to be among Bayern’s highest earners if he is to stay with the club.
Fortunately that breaking news did not impact the match which Bayern won 1-0 thanks to heroics from Joshua Kimmich who was a man possessed running 13.73 km which is the most by any Bayern player since the stat has been tracked.
To top off this huge Bayern victory, Thomas Muller decided to give an epic interview in English nonetheless where he discussed such topics as Burki’s short arms and “Bayern’s roadrunner”.
Brazzo surprised many when he went on record to say that German players are an important component of the Bayern team.
Wednesday
Thiago’s adductor issues are still not resolved and he will miss the match with Fortuna. Boateng however is expected to play. The most troubling news however was regarding Lars Lucas Mai. The longtime great Bayern Youth hope had to leave training with an ankle injury.
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge praised the work of Kimmich and Goretzka relating to their WeKickCorona project and gave them a big check worth 250K from the sale of Bayern’s scarf masks.
Apparently David Alaba picked the number 27 because 7 was his favorite number, which Ribery had and 17 was taken by van Bommel…who cared knew?
Munich’s mayor crushed Bayern supporters dreams by announcing that the club would not be able to celebrate in Marienplatz if they win the Bundesliga this season.
Finally, Kicker released their grades for the BVB match and somehow thought Kimmich was only worth a 1.5…uh huh, Boateng a 2, Davies a 3 but somehow saw fit to give Coman and Muller both 2.5’s. I sometimes wonder if I watch the same match as these people.
Thursday
In further developments, Bayern are “working” on extending David Alabas contract and are apparently even talking to Alabas agent Pini Zahavi…I’m not sure what they were doing before but this seems like the method they should have been using all along.
Friday
Despite apparently strong performances during the break, the club seems to have completely given up on Fiete Arp, banishing him to the second team all together.
Supposedly Bayern are willing to part with their record signing Lucas Hernandez this summer. I’ll believe the Bayern board are willing to eat that kind of financial loss when I see it. Christian Falk also immediately shut this down.
Good news if you are either inordinately interested in Bayern’s 4th choice winger or perhaps Croatian, Inter Milan appear to be set on selling Ivan Perisic to Bayern even if it comes at a reduced price from what they agreed upon in the original loan deal.
BILD reported that the remainder of the Champions League will be played out in about 10 days…somewhere…though it’s doubtful it will be in Istanbul where it was supposed to be.
BILD also reporting “news” from 25 days earlier indicating that Thiago was debating returning to Spain for his family which is why he had not yet signed a contract extension despite having reached the final stages of his contract negotiations.
Saturday
With Bayern’s 5-0 win over Fortuna Dusseldorf, Robert Lewendowski achieved mastery over the entirety of the Bundesliga…Fortuna was the only team he had not previously scored against and Hansi Flick became Bayern’s best coach ever…at least to start his career.
Sadly, Lucas was once again substituted off for injury concerns, this time with an adductor problem. It was unclear based on comments after the match just how serious it is.
Finally, the elder of our current favorite in-team bromance, David Alaba, lavished praise on his “younger brother” Alphonso Davies, saying he is a “great boy” and that he shows a great desire to improve and learn.
