Round-Up & Link-List: Bayern, a team of two speeds?

Bettina Separator February 17, 2017

Bayern wins the Big Games – or at least, have won the two big games this season against Leipzig and Arsenal. All that glittered in the early phase of that second half of the Champions League game is not gold, however, as has become (sometimes painfully) obvious over the last couple of weeks.

How can these uninspired performances in Bundesliga and DFB Pokal be put into context with the game on Wednesday? To be fair, Arsenal were one of the tactically weakest opponents that Bayern played at home in a fairly long time, and having to take off Koscielny took away all grit that the guests may have had left in them.

Are we seeing an FC Bayern of “two speeds”, as Steffen mentioned in our team chat, and if so, can it really work? Can Carlo Ancelotti lead the team through league and domestic cup at cruise control, and then turn it up to full speed in the Champions League? The team is undoubtedly still struggling with – sometimes blatantly obvious – structural weaknesses, but in the Big Games so far, Ancelotti has proven his critics wrong.

Can they keep going like that, or will these tactics come back to bite Bayern later on in the season? Is this FC Bayern a team of two speeds?

We often think about the best way to make our round-up as interesting as possible with texts worth reading – partially because we’re running out of memorable players for our look back in time. We would like to use the round-up as a platform for open discourse about all general topics concerning FC Bayern. What would you like to read? Leave us a comment!
