Extra: eight more predictions for the FC Bayern 22/23 season

Georg Separator August 8, 2022

Title Gorger

FC Bayern won the Super Cup in a spectacular 5:3 over Leipzig and the season opener at Frankfurt 1:6. How many titles do FC Bayern win out of the three remaining?

A) 0
B) 1
C) 2
D) 3

Dennis: 2
Christopher: 1
Louisa: 2
George: 1
Maurice: 1
Alex: 2

Squad Depth

Last season, squad depth was an issue. Julian Nagelsmann used the same 14 players over and over again, the rest were only rarely afforded play time. Jamal Musiala played the 14th most minutes in the competition with 1,980. Following him, Corentin Tolisso was a long way behind in 15th place with only 1,069 minutes. On paper, the squad has become wider. How many players will break the 1,500 minute mark in the 2022/23 season?

A) 13 or fewer
B) 14
C) 15
D) 16 or more

Dennis: 15
Louisa: 15
Georg: 16 or more
Christopher: 15
Maurice: 15
Alex: 16 or more

Goals

Last season, Manuel Neuer and Sven Ulreich had to make 37 saves in the Bundesliga, and 44 the year before. Long gone, it seems, are the days when they conceded 18 goals, as in 2013 under Heynckes, or only 17 in 2016 under Guardiola. How many goals will FC Bayern concede in the 2022/23 Bundesliga season?

A) Less than 25
B) 25-34
C) 35-44
D) 45 or more

Dennis: 25-34
Louisa: 35-44
George: 25-34
Christopher: 35-44 (Hope B)
Maurice: 25-34
Alex: 35-44

Back line

Three-man backline, four-man backline. After the signing of Matthijs de Ligt, FC Bayern’s central defence is more expensive than ever and strongly manned. Which of the quartet of de Ligt, Hernández, Upamecano and Pavard will collect the most minutes in all competitive matches (regardless of position)?

A) Matthijs de Ligt
B) Lucas Hernández
C) Dayot Upamecano
D) Benjamin Pavard

Dennis: Benjamin Pavard
Louisa: Lucas Hernández
George: Lucas Hernández
Christopher: Lucas Hernández
Maurice: Matthijs de Ligt
Alex: Matthijs de Ligt

The Goretzka Question

A look at Bayern’s midfield: top dog Kimmich, pre-season winner Sabitzer, newcomer Gravenberch and rising star Musiala, although the latter will probably be used more offensively. Perhaps Laimer will still join from Leipzig after all. Will competition be fierce for Leon Goretzka? In his four years at FC Bayern, he played a total of 53% of all competitive minutes. What share of game time will Goretzka get this season?

A) Less than 40%
B) 40%-50%
C) 50%-60%
D) More than 60%

Dennis: 50%-60%
Georg: 40%-50%
Christopher: 40%-50%
Maurice: 40%-50
Alex: Less than 40%

Lewandowski Succession #1

The departed striker scored 344 goals for FC Bayern. Nevertheless, no 1-to-1 replacement for the record goal scorer was signed, and the goal scoring duty has to be shouldered by more actors instead. Who will score most often?

A) Sadio Mané
B) Serge Gnabry
C) Thomas Müller
D) Someone else

Dennis: Sadio Mané
Louisa: Sadio Mané
Georg: Serge Gnabry
Christopher: Sadio Mané
Maurice: Serge Gnabry
Alex: Sadio Mané

Lewandowski Succession #2

Among Lewandowski’s many goals for FC Bayern were 51 penalties. With nerves of steel, he converted 91% of his penalties. In the exhibition match against D.C. United, Sadio Mané scored from the spot, but other candidates like Thomas Müller or Joshua Kimmich were not on the pitch. Who will follow in Lewandowski’s footsteps as the main penalty taker and score the most penalties for FC Bayern?

A) Sadio Mané
B) Joshua Kimmich
C) Thomas Müller
D) Someone else

Dennis: Thomas Müller
Louisa: Thomas Müller
Georg: Sadio Mané
Christopher: Thomas Müller (New?)
Maurice: Sadio Mané
Alex: Sadio Mané

Sadio Mané

Among the new arrivals, Sadio Mané, freshly elected Africa’s Footballer of the Year, stands out. How many goals will he score in all competitive matches combined? His previous best dates back to the 2018/19 season, when he scored a total of 26 times for Liverpool FC.

A) Fewer than 15
B) 15-20
C) 21-25
D) More than 25

Dennis: 21-25
Louisa: 15-20
George: 21-25
Christopher: 21-25
Maurice: 15-20
Alex: 15-20
