Bayern Dominate Frankfurt
Unfortunately, this attempt at rotation was almost immediately shut down, at least in the case of Hernandez, who was forced to come on in the third minute after Davies went down completely untouched and appeared to turn his ankle. From there Lewandowski Bayern would dominate Frankfurt ultimately winning 5-0, thanks of course to the worlds best striker as well as a magical goal by Sane and the finisher by Musiala.
The Unstoppable Lewandowski
At time’s we feel like a broken record here. It seems like every match we sing the praises of Robert Lewandowski but seemingly every match he leaves us no choice but to do so. Once again the striker put on a clinic scoring a hat trick and bringing his league total up to 10 already this season. For his first, Lewandowski received a pass from Coman at the edge of the box with no one around him and fired it past a helpless Kevin Trapp. The second followed shortly after from a Joshua Kimmich corner where he held off his defender and managed to head into the low corner. The last came on a nice little through ball from Costa where Lewandowski got past his defender and put it past Trapp’s near post.
Many days, probably too many for some Bayern fans, Lewandowski seems to have to do too much on his own. Today however was not one of those days. While his efforts and scoring deserve tons of praise, he actually was provided service from the supporting players around him. When he gets this type of space and contribution from his teammates, the Polish international is nearly unstoppable and this match is just a testament to that.
Coman Shines Again
Coman in particular had a very good match again providing 1 assist but more importantly being very active the entire time he was on the pitch. Bayern supporters worldwide have accused the Frenchman of not being dangerous enough in attack at times, an accusation not without merit, but these last few matches have been a real eye turner. Not only has he scored goals and provided assists, but his shots seem more accurate and fierce. His passes look like they have more purpose and intent.
When Bayern signed Leroy Sane, we all assumed that Coman would be the 3rd choice winger. These last few performances however have put Sane and Gnabry on notice. Kingsley is not happy with that state of affairs. He is going to push for those starting spots and if those two do not play to their capabilities, they will be the ones coming off the bench.
Control
However, maybe the best news to Bayern supporters will be that they yet again retained a clean sheet. This time however there was never a real feeling that Bayern were going to concede. Frankfurt had a couple of chances, the most notable from Bas Dost who appeared to get one over Neuer but Neuer scrambled back and cleared it off the line.
Overall though, Bayern dominated proceedings never really allowing Frankfurt to get a hold on the match, break in behind or in general get any good chances. The midfield and defense operated well as a unit and looked far more like the Bayern that shut down so many teams last season. They will look to keep that form going on Tuesday in their next Champions League match with Lokomotiv Moscow.
