Last Week In Bayern News

subrat Separator September 8, 2020

Sunday

The week started with club legend Xabi Alonso heaping praise on Josh. The Spaniard insisted that Kimmich could walk into any team in the world, telling SportBild: “He has learned incredibly quickly. Joshua Kimmich has found his role and has reached maturity. He is at a level that allows him to play in any team in the world.”

Well one can’t blame Josh for being this good, he played with and learned from titans in midfield.

Moving away from routine news, the team is currently on a much deserved vacation with the majority of them being exempt from NT duties too. It doesn’t hurt to look at the new schedule for the team ahead of time:

Monday

Mondays are tough. There’s this sense of complacency as one drags one’s legs out of bed and gathers all of one’s will to go about the day, I guess. Well, not if you are a Bayern fan!

The Nations League which we spoke of earlier has many important fixtures coming later this week. After what transpired in 2018 in Russia, the NT will be looking forward to regaining confidence in this format before the Euro Cup. Last but not the least, these matches give us fans a baseline of what to expect from Die Mannschaft in the upcoming months. If Joachim Löw’s lineup can pull off convincing displays without the resident Bavarians, it augurs more interesting times ahead for fans of German football.

Start of a new era? In all honesty though, we wouldn’t be complaining if he had stuck to the 22 with which Gnabry painted London red all over. Fond memories.

Tuesday

Loanees at Bayern haven’t had the greatest track record in recent years. And then came these men. Maybe we hoped for a better display from them, but at the end of the day they were there when it mattered.

Yes, Süle!

Wednesday

Hansi Flick was faced with a dilemma as to his winger of choice on the left. He could have gone with Ivan, who impressed against Barcelona or he could have gone with Philippe who would have linked up with Davies really well. In the end, he went with his gut and chose Coman who scored that header to be christened Mr. Lisbon for history. Impressive, and to think he followed his gut in the CL final of all places.

Team’s content, fans ecstatic, manager hungrier for success and the bookkeepers happy. What a curious year for Bayern.

Let’s turn our attention towards the impending Nations League first. Joachim Löw confirmed that Leroy Sane and Niklas Süle would be in the starting lineup for the Germany vs Spain match. Neither of these players have featured for the NT in the past year. Quite an interesting choice, Löw.

Tidbit for Thursday: Referee Daniele Orsato, who officiated the CL final between Bayern and Paris, will officiate tomorrow’s game between Germany and Spain.

In other news, Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga clubs have agreed to keep the 5 substitution rule for the entire 2020/21 season. Although it is up to Flick if he wants to rotate 5 players every game, this just makes the tight schedule even more interesting.

If UEFA Nations League is the only way I get to watch german football again, then so be it!

Friday

The German attack has always been very lethal and today was no different. Had there been some more presence in the midfield, Germany could’ve easily turned in at least one more goal. But what can one expect, when one faces Thiago Alcantara in midfield?

Saturday

Weekends are best spent at the Allianz Arena. Despite the corona situation, the Bayern management are hard at work devising a system that allows the arena to function at one third of the capacity once again, while following social distancing guidelines. We have a new turf too.

Kai Havertz just went ahead and did it. Most expensive German player ever. It’s almost like Lamps is playing career mode on FIFA.

The footballing world is in an unprecedented state of turmoil right now. From the Camp Nou to Stamford Bridge, no one appears to have afforded themselves a quiet vacation after the whole campaign of 2020. Except Bayern that is.

Here’s hoping the kings continue their winning streak for a few more years.
