Inspired Bayern Thrash Fortuna

Pep-esque

For the first time in quite a while, Bayern came out and dominated a match from start to finish. There was never any doubt while watching this match who would win. The Bayern players seemed intent on showing the rest of the league that they intend to claim their 8th successive title as soon as possible.

Additionally, the movement and positioning, especially early on, was phenomenal. The players moved interchangeably all over the pitch and created chaos for the Forutna defense. Hansi Flick deserves a ton of credit for the way the club is playing right now and has really started to put his imprint on this team. This match was a genuine joy to watch and very reminiscent of the Pep days.

Lewadowski Break’s Through

It’s hard to believe there is a team on earth that Lewandowski hasn’t scored against, especially given his recent form, but he had never managed to do so against the Düsseldorf club. That changed today as he scored a brace and brought his season total up to 43 including 29 in Bundesliga play.

While it is probably a bit of a stretch for him to reach Gerd Müller’s record of 40 with just 5 matches remaining, it has been a truly remarkable season for the 31 year old. His work ethic, instincts and physical abilities have helped him to do something that few manage in world football by turning in a career year over the age of 30.

Knocking on the Door

While it is still too early to start planning our individual title celebrations, this was another important step along Bayern’s path to the Meisterschale. For today, they are 10 points clear of BVB, who play tomorrow and 12 points ahead of Leipzig who play on Monday.

With 5 more weeks of play following the game on Monday, neither club can afford to drop any more points this season. Leverkusen for the moment has even jumped ahead of Leipzig in the standings. With that in mind, next weeks match away to Bayer 04 should be extremely entertaining and of the utmost importance.
